Our little nurse

I had six (more) moles removed last week, all on my back. Within five minutes of walking through the door at home after the appointment, Ava piped up and told me she could help take care of my stitches, reminding me she’d done the same for her mom in the past. I was thrilled.

This morning, Ava made good on her offer. While Leah and Emmett slept, I hopped in and out of the shower and then, after patting myself off, gathered the supplies Ava needed to tend my wounds. She dutifully soaked cotton balls in peroxide and dabbed at each site. Next, she applied a thin film of Vaseline over the stitches before covering each with a bandage. All done. It was sweet and impressive to watch the methodical way Ava approached her task and to feel her little fingertips press against the ends of the band aids when she applied them to my back.
