You'll pardon our absence

Oh, life with baby. It’s one thing right to another.

The little fella continues to eat, sleep, and defecate with regularity. He’s even entered something of a routine at night, fussing for an hour or so before falling asleep sometime around 9. Then he sleeps until 12 or 12:30, eats, sleeps another couple hours, eats again, then sleeps until around 4 or 4:30, when he wakes up and fusses for about 90 minutes before settling in for his morning nap. When Ava was this age, we would’ve KILLED (and almost did) for an hour of uninterrupted snoozing. So, you can see why we’re not complaining about Emmett’s nightly rounds.

The poor guy has been a little congested during his late night feedings, so last evening I was dispatched to find a cool mist humidifier with which we might offer him some relief. Those suckers are pricey! Tonight we had to crank the humidity output setting on it all the way to the top, since the sensor in the thing was indicating that it was already basically under water. But it finally kicked on, and now Emmett is sleeping quietly, ensconced in his moist cloud. Downside: I wake up feeling like a pickle’s been soaking in a jar.

I also want to note here, for posterity, that Emmett’s big sister has been expressing a fair amount of nastiness toward her little brother lately. I’m not sure how long this’ll go on, but I submit the following as proof that — at least for as long as it took to snap this picture — Ava was positively thrilled with her new baby bro:
