As if Carrot Top weren’t enough

More bad news to end the week:

Deming and Dynarski note that, in the last 40 years, almost every state has raised the age at which children can start school. “This change is remarkable,” they write, “given the strong evidence that, in the United States, starting school later decreases educational attainment.”

Ava misses the kindergarten cutoff for the ICCSD by three days, which means she’ll be one of the older kids in her class. I went through the same thing when we moved to Iowa City from Evanston. If anything, I always considered it a bonus that I was older than most of my peers. Obviously, I was never thinking about how much less money I’d earn over the course of my life. How could I have been so naive! Curse my stupid five-year-old self!
