Spring has sprung

Or at least you’d think so by the way pregnancy is spreading at my office. I just had a visit from one of my female colleagues from the department to inform me — officially — that she’s pregnant. Just into her second trimester. The other woman of breeding age amongst the researchers here is also pregnant, though she’s further along. I’m glad they’re in my department and not Leah’s; it’d be much more difficult for her to deal with pregnant women walking around all the time.

In upcoming weekend news, Ava’s staying at Gramary’s Saturday night, so Leah and I are going to drive down to Washington to eat at Cafe Dodici. They’ve just reopened after a winter hiatus, so it seems like a good opportunity to visit. After that, well, our Netflix queue tells me that No Country for Old Men should be waiting for me when I get home today. Leah and I have been eager to see it, so I suppose we’ll settle in and check it out (so long as our full bellies don’t put us immediately to sleep).

Speaking of No Country for Old Men, are there any Miller’s Crossing fans in the house? I watched a bit of it the other night in the process of ripping and encoding my copy for placement on the server. I’d forgotten what a good film it is. The Coens sure do have a way with gunfights. The scene in which they come for Albert Finney’s character is a classic (note to self: Although Tommy guns carry a lot of ammo, they’re not terribly accurate).
