This happened a couple days ago, but I’ve been telling myself I need to write it down so I can have the account in the official record.
Ava’s outgrown naps, for the most part. In truth, she was never much of a napper. Nor a sleeper in general. The only time she naps now, really, is at daycare when her favorite worker, Alyce (uh*lease), is there to snuggle with her.
So imagine our trepidation when Ava’s Gramary came to pick up Ava last weekend to attend a percussion concert in the afternoon on a day when Ava hadn’t napped (and had actually woken up pretty early, too). We had all sorts of visions of her coming home to bounce off the walls and be fussy and grumpy. No fun for anyone.
We were amazed, then, when Ava arrived home with a little spring in her step and hugs for everyone. Gramary reported that Ava actually slept for an hour, during the drum show, on her lap. We had to laugh at the improbability of it. Apparently the folks in the audience were amused, too, that anyone could sleep through all that racket. On further rumination, the nap made sense. There’s always lots of noise at daycare, even around nap time. We try to be quiet when Ava’s napping or sleeping, but maybe we’ve had it all wrong. Maybe I should put on Weld and turn it up to 11 when it’s time for Ava to hit the sack.
