When it rains…

We experienced a major potty training setback yesterday. Ava had a total of four accidents, including #1 and #2, between 6 a.m. and midnight, when she wet her bed. Leah suspects a bladder infection, but Ava hasn’t really been complaining about any pain. And it sounds like she’s been getting to the bathroom. Just not enough, apparently. She’d been doing great up until the last couple days, so it’s a bit confounding to see her regress now. I suppose we’ll just have to wait it out and see how things go.

We’ve been trying to get up a little earlier this week so that we can get Ava dropped off and Leah to the coffee shop before work. It’s been working fairly well. This morning, I hopped out of bed at 6:09 and got into the shower. Ava was in our bed, since all the bedding from her bed was in a basket in the bathroom, waiting to go into the wash.

I had just gotten soaped up when Leah walked in and announced that Ava wanted to get into the shower with me. And so she did. It was pretty funny and very sweet. Ava wrapped her arms around my leg and stood there under the water while I tried to finish rinsing off. Then I knelt beside her and told her that some people like to sing in the shower. We launched into “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” but I only sang a couple words before Ava told me she knew how to sing it by herself. She went through the whole song, then started in on “Wheels on the Bus.” We did a couple rounds of that before I told her we needed to get out and get dried off. It was a special moment, and it was a wonderful salve for my nerves after worrying about whatever was causing Ava’s incontinence. I’m very much hoping she can make it through the day dry.
