Last night, Ava and I were lying in her new double bed, which was delivered yesterday. She said to me, “This would make a great bed for a baby butthead.” (This “butthead” word, which she did NOT learn from us, is her newest linguistic obsession, with which she daily tests our limits. We’ve been repeatedly chastising her for it, but now I think we should just ignore it and hope it goes away.)

\nAnyway, I said to her, “Ava, we don’t use words like that.” Ignoring my admonishment completely, she sat up in bed, held up her hands, and said, “Hey! You know what, Mom? All those words start with the letter ‘B’: ‘bed,’ ‘baby,’ and ‘butthead!'” I had to smother a smile of disbelief and admiration.
