My mom usually takes Ava to and from school during the week. Sometimes, when the two of them are at Gramary’s house in the afternoon, we get an electronic message from Ava. Like this one we received today: She digs thje Zapf Dingbats, as you can plainly see. Also, please avoid paincones, if you’re able.

MERGED!
October 7th, 2009 · 4 Comments
Fine, fine. Chalk up my failed experiment to hubris (Danny’s too good a person to say, “I told you so”), but I’ve merged anonymark and avablog into this blog now, which may or may not remain under its present name. anonymark has a redirect in effect, but you may as well delete that bookmark, if […]

Vado, Mino. Vado, Mino. And the winner is….
May 1st, 2009 · 4 Comments
The Creative Labs Vado HD. Leah and I have been cogitating on this purchase for a while, but seeing Danny’s Mino last weekend brought us closer to action (well, that and all the contractions Leah’s been having recently). If you’re wondering, the better (IMO) specs of the Vado weren’t the only things pushing me in […]

Still at it? Really?
April 24th, 2009 · 5 Comments
I’m not sure whether to be more astounded that this hit my gmail inbox or that someone’s still working the Nigerian scam. Either way, it gave me pause.
God bless you, WWW

A new day
March 31st, 2009 · 14 Comments
Sometimes I need to remind myself that this blog isn’t all about me. Or Leah. So I’ll try to put together a unicorn chaser here. Thanks to all those who commented on yesterday’s incendiary post; it’s always interesting to find the limits of acceptable public disclosure.

All of which makes me wonder
March 24th, 2009 · No Comments
Will Leah and I find Ava’s blog more titillating than she finds ours? When can I expect the tipping point at which the children of blog-age parents spend more time reading their parents’ blogs than the obverse?
Flummoxed

So I’m trying to implement the comments RSS feed on both my blogs, each of which is running the same version of WordPress and using the same theme. I’ve modified code in my header.php file so that the comments RSS link will appear at the top of this page; you should be able to see […]

Never, ever

embark on a blog post if you don’t know what you’re going to write. That’s my advice to you, should you ever happen to find yourself with a blog.

I love you, broadband
December 26th, 2008 · 4 Comments
It’s nice to be back in the land of high(ish) bandwidth. It’s always a pleasure to visit Decorah, and G.G. and Harvey are great hosts (if not the best Taboo partners). But Georgie’s 256k Internet serice takes a little getting used to. As the Klevar women would be quick to point out, it wouldn’t kill […]
Boxee
December 17th, 2008 · 10 Comments
The AppleTV just keeps getting better. My tech benefactor hooked me up with a Boxee invite this week, and I installed it on the ATV at noon today. It’s a slick interface. Built on the vaunted XBox Media Center, Boxee plays all sorts of video formats and streams radio and video from places like Hulu […]

Hello world!
December 8th, 2008 · No Comments
Funny how appropriate the default WordPress install title for this first post is. I give you one of the earliest images of the latest (and LAST) Klevar/Palmberg child: Funny how it looks like a little ghost. Anywho, I’m probably crazy for creating two different blogs for two different kids, and I suppose I’m making lots […]

Wake up, Neo
December 6th, 2008 · 4 Comments
Three cheers for Greg Smith, who I swear is the closest thing to Neo outside of a movie theater. Seriously. If there’s anything he doesn’t know about the CLI, it’s likely not worth knowing. He’s saved my bacon more times over the last…sheesh…has it been 10 years?…than I can count. Wow. Anyway, thanks, Greg. I […]
avablog going down

My web host is moving to a new service today, so avablog will be down for a while. See y’all real soon!
Up and running
October 7th, 2008 · No Comments
Three cheers for Kevin and Greg, who got avablog up and running at its new home last night! As you can see, I need to get my old Cutline theme reinstalled, but that’s minor compared to switching over the MySQL database, etc. If you’ve been kind enough to link to avablog from your site, please […]

Hi! avablog is moving to a new host after a long stint on the back of my pal Greg Smith. I’m not certain where we’ll end up yet, but I do have a brother-in-law with some technical know how, a fast pipe, and a lightly-loaded server, so who knows? In any case, I’ll keep you […]

If you used the Internet today, or ever, you should read this (PDF). And if you don’t know who Larry Lessig is, there’s no better time to find out. It’s not too late. He’s not your average over-educated, elitist, liberal, political activist. Thanks to Denny for the link.

Seriously. I’d settle for $.50 from every iPod ever sold. There’s no guarantee, of course, that had Kramer raised that initial 60K pounds he would’ve been able to actually market his device at that time. And without iTunes as a front end, it just would’ve been a Zune, anyway. But still…. Ouch.

I hate to gloat. Really, I do. But this is just so tasty. Via /.: Apple Inc.’s market capitalization exceeded Google today. That means that the combined value of all Apple’s outstanding shares of stock exceeded the combined value of all Google’s outstanding shares of stock. Apple’s stock is worth $157 billion and change vs. […]
