The other day we received a fairly large box that contained some items to adorn Emmett’s room, now that it’s been painted, and his new bed has been installed. As usual, the space in the box not containing our adornments was filled with rolls and rolls of bubble wrap. If there’s one thing I hate only slightly less than I hate Styrofoam packing peanuts, it’s bubble wrap.
After we emptied the box, Emmett commandeered it and began poking holes in one of the top flaps with a pencil to make “buttons.” He also went at it with his Crayons. When asked what he was making, he replied, “A spaceship!” I stood and watched him work for a bit before realizing that the pile of bubble wrap next to the box might be transformed (with a little duct tape) into a pretty sweet astronaut suit. And so we came up with this:
Sure, we had to lift him in and out of the spaceship, but I told him that that’s just how they used to get astronauts into spaceships in the old days. I made sure to remind him, however, not to prematurely blow the explosive bolts during a water recovery.
