First, an aside. Why can’t squirrels be more like farm chickens? I mean, you can’t run over a farm chicken if you try, but squirrels just seem to freeze up when a car comes upon them. Anyway, I squished one on the way home from dropping off Ava at school this morning, and it’s not a great way to start the day.
We went with my mother to an event called Move It! Dig It! Do It! last Sunday. It’s kind of like an equipment expo for kids, with all sorts of trucks and emergency vehicles they can sit in and crawl on. Ava had a blast, particularly when the medical helicopter flew in. Oh, and also when she rode the horse buggy, which was pulled by a huge “glidesdale.”
See all the pics from the day here. It was a gorgeous day, but the grounds at the event could’ve used a little more shade here and there. Oh, and a beer tent, too. Maybe next year.
One last note: I’m on furlough from work all this week, staying home with the boy and enjoying the waning days of summer (which are also, luckily enough, the waxing days of fall). Ava’s birthday is Thursday, and mine’s on Sunday, so it’s a big week around here. It’s the first year I’ve felt any pressure to get Ava a pony; I suspect it won’t be the last, but I can hope the pressure doesn’t get any greater down the road (chickens in the back yard is one thing; a horse…).
