Leah, Em, and I had a nice moment on the porch yesterday, during which he smiled at me — on demand — no fewer than three times in succession. The importance of this event was that Leah was sitting directly across from Em and me, so she witnessed the whole thing. She dismissed the first smile as simply gas, but the next two were clearly loving, doting smiles directed squarely at his pop. It was more than a little thrilling. Consider this the “first smile” entry in Em’s baby book.
Also noteworthy over the weekend was the “baby sprinkle” thrown for Leah and Em by Leah’s friends. I wasn’t invited, but I can say that Leah spent the rest of the afternoon after the shower basking in the realization of how dear and wonderful her friends are. Sounds like a successful shindig. The best part was that Unc and Eesh drove down from a trip to Cedar Falls to spend most of Sunday with us before heading back to Madtown. It’s always great to see them.
I’ll leave you now with the latest shot of Em, taken — as usual — on our bed as he gazed with determination out our window:
