Don’t tell Ava that Emmett is a much easier baby than she was. Ava was notorious for howling like crazy every time she was set down somewhere, which made for a really rough first three months home from the hospital. Emmett, by comparison, pretty much eats and sleeps, with an occasional fussy period now and then. He even sleeps in the car, which is a treat.
It also seems like Emmett’s starting to become more aware of his surroundings, which is fun. He still won’t get much out of our annual trip to N. MN at the end of next month, but it’ll be nice to have him along anyway.
The real benefit of the boy’s continued development, of course, is that he provides more visual interest for my photographs of him (can I still call them “photographs?” Maybe not.). I find myself caught in the classic parent trap (no, not that one) of wanting my son to stay a cute little cuddly baby and wanting to find out what he’s going to look like. To look at him now, there’s not much direction on whether he’ll take the Leah path to effortless gorgeousness or the Mark road to rugged handsomeness:
