Before I left the house this morning, I made Ava pinky promise that she’d give her mom a break today. It’s Leah’s first day home solo with both kids, and I’m sure it’ll be trying.

Ava usually reserves the pinky promise for things she promises to do in return for getting something she wants. In fact, I’ve noticed a distinct drop off in her resolve to abide by the pinky promise if there’s no quid pro quo involved. So I’m hoping for the best and expecting the worst today. I considered offering Ava some incentive for her cooperation, but I’m sincerely trying to avoid that slippery slope. Next thing you know, she’ll be expecting a Mercedes instead of a Lexus on her 16th birthday.
