The long, silent morning

March 10th, 2008 · by map · 14 Comments

We scrambled to get out the door this morning, and in the rush, I left my iPod behind. Not good. And I’d just added about 75 new tunes last night that I was looking forward to hearing. I’ll have to remember to grab it when I’m home at noon today.

Speaking of iPods, I dropped into Target and the AT&T store yesterday to look at the iPhone and the iPod Touch. There were no display models of the Touch at Target, only locked boxes stacked tantalizingly behind glass. At the AT&T store, I’d barely laid hands on the iPhone display before the manager was on me like a dog on a bone. I explained that I was pretty sure an $80/mo. voice/data contract (the cheapest one, BTW) was way, way outside my budget, and the manager did a good job of not giving me the strong sell. Smart thinking. I took his card and let him know I’d get back to him when I win the lottery.

My friend Greg is sure that the iPhone is the way to go over the iPod Touch, simply because I’d find the WiFi-only connectivity of the Touch too restricting. Dear pal Ben is of the same mind; he already owns an iPhone. I’ve been purposely avoiding him just so he can’t show me how cool the thing is; that envy spreads faster than MRSA in a sick ward and is twice as deadly.

Frankly, new toys are far down our current priority list. Items like dead tree removal, radon remediation, and a reverse osmosis water system will keep an iAnything out of my greedy little hands for the foreseeable future. But that’s OK. Shockingly, an iPod Touch adds almost nothing to a home’s resale value.
