Blast from the past

November 16th, 2006 · by map · No Comments

As I’ve mentioned, I was born in Madison, WI, in 1970. Shortly thereafter, we moved to Evanston, IL, where my brother was born in 1972. I don’t recall a thing about living in Madison, though something about the place seems vaguely familiar when we now visit the place where my family used to live.

I recall more about Evanston. We had a neat back yard with a treehouse in it that was perilously close to the power lines running along the rear of the property. How my brother and I were never electrocuted remains a great mystery from that time. We had neighbors who kept parakeets, and Scott and I would watch the birds flit around the house every time we visited.

We spent a lot of time outdoors in Evanston. There was a small group of kids our age in the neighborhood, two of whom were right next door, and it seems we were always out and about in the block doing something. And sometimes we took baths in the back yard in a big metal washtub, as evidenced here:

Sheesh. Could I have had bigger feet?
