Those of you who were prescient enough to register an account here at avablog have access to all the pictures I put up of Ava from time to time. If you haven’t registered, don’t despair! You can always click on the “register” link over at the right and set up an account (it’s easy and fast). If I know who you are, where you came from, or how you came across the blog, I’ll set your user level to allow you to see all the posts.
But I understand that a lot of people would rather remain anonymous, even though they know they’re missing big sweet bucketfuls of cuteness. So be it. For those people, I’m instituting a new feature today that you registered users will recognize as similar to the “Moment of cuteness.” I’m calling it “Blast from the past,” and it’ll be where I post old pictures of yours truly along with some memories from the time the shot was taken. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll even get Leah to contribute a post or two.
In addition to giving unregistered users something interesting(?) to look at, I thought this would be a nice way to give Ava a look at who her parents were (and are). So, without further ado, I give you:
My best guess is that this picture was taken at my grandmother’s house in Burlington, IA, around Christmastime/New Year’s, 1970. I would’ve been about 3 months old. What I love about this shot are the ears…all the ears. I’ve always (obviously) had pretty prominent ears, but this is the first picture I remember when you really get a sense of just how prominent they were going to be. I’m sure having that rabbit sitting there doesn’t help matters much.
