OK - I gotta do this. In re: that whole dress thing? Check this one out. The pang when this little boy is told he is not a "single lady" is heart wrenching. And so damned cute!!! I don't know how to make it an "active" link here, but I hope it magically occurs.

http://gawker.com/5506978/little-boy-bursts-int...

Leah: How lovely! He is such a lucky little boy, and it is especially great his parents know fully how fortunate they are in each of their children. I always love reading these posts from you and Mark.

I already delight, as I watch his chronicles online, in Em's sweet temper, his humor and joy, the twinkle in his eyes, and his spirit. I just want to see him absorb everything, and form his thoughts and opinions. I really can't wait to see where he goes. He is already so much himself, Emmett Charles, that it is amazing.

Though I don't wish to make much of it, I also applaud your comments regarding that dress. But then, I've never gotten over the fact that my brother-in-law melodramatically forbade my nephew, his son, from wearing a christening gown. It wasn't my place at all, but I admit I wanted to clock him for that bit of business. And so it goes...the family of humankind. :)

--Kim

Oh, Danny, that makes me want to cry. How unbearably sweet and tender--to think of him hiding the unicorn behind the dragon. I think kids do more than make us aware of our own mortality; they also let us bear witness to the birth of human consciousness and the full range of human emotions. It's a beautiful thing.

Can I be the first one to say, "Not that there's anything wrong with that!"

Your sentiments are delightful, loving, and a wee bit inspiring, too.

I wanted girls, and I got boys, and I would not trade them for anything. Even if one declares that his favorite color is red, but will admit to me that his "secret favorite color" is pink. He also hides the coloring page unicorn behind the coloring page dragon on his bulletin board. So sweet.
