Marriage Poll #3

March 23rd, 2010 · by Leah · 6 Comments

Do you clean the windows in your home (inside and out)? If so, how many times a year/decade? And if you lived in an old house (with old, difficult-to-clean windows) where the windows hadn’t been cleaned (inside or out) in at least eight years, and they were totally dull and grimy, would you spend a good chunk of change to have them cleaned?

“…and they were totally dull and grimy,…”

    Subjective.

Really, isn't there a health care bill you can post about, or something?

I can't tell who is on which side here. I'm assuming (ass = me) Mark doesn't want to pay for them to be cleaned, because they are not really that dirty. But Leah would be happy to pay for the dull and grimy windows to be cleaned, so Mark doesn't actually have to clean them (so she can avoid hearing about it for the next year).

We cleaned the outside of our windows last year for the first time in this house (so, almost 3 years, then) and we got my mother-in-law to do it with a bottle of something mildly toxic attached to a hose. Didn't pay much for it, *and* didn't have to do the work myself.

The inside of our windows get cleaned (I think) by our regular housecleaning service. Which we pay for. Gladly. I'd sooner drop cable than drop the housecleaners.

So, by all means, throw money at it. That's what we (would) do.

haven't washed the outside of our upstairs windows since we moved in… some two-and-a-half years ago.

have big plans to hire someone to do that soon… and, have zero intention of consulting the husband first. ha.

We have cleaned the windows in our house (upstairs and downstairs) 2 times in the 9 years we have lived in the house). Honestly, if it wasn't such a pain in the butt, I would do it more often. We do it ourselves (my mom has helped both times). We rented a powerwasher from AeroRental and hosed the entire outside of the house and then cleaned the windows inside and out. It is a big project involving Jim getting on a ladder to do the outside of the upstairs windows (we only have 5 upstairs windows though).

Funny because this isn't a F-U-N job but it is so rewarding when you are finished and the glass is so clear and sparkly. I say do-it-yourself (all of you; not just Mark!). Once you are finished, enjoy your accomplishment. BUT, be prepared for the fact that as soon as it rains the spots will be back!

WRONG! Answer: New Infinity Windows by Marvin AND $1,500 tax credit.

Frankly, cleaning the windows in that place is like dropping a $20,000 sound system into an '87 Mercury Sable. I gotta go cost this out….
