Having a baby soon?

October 13th, 2008 · by map · 6 Comments

We’re not, but I came across this book today at BoingBoing and found the discussion around it interesting.

From the “If I Only Knew Then What I Know Now” dept., I would’ve had Ava in bed with us from Day 1 if I knew it’d make sleeping so much more manageable. Leah was worried that one of us would crush Ava in our sleep, so we ended up keeping our little Toodle Puss in a bassinet next to the bed in our room. Worked well enough, but it was essentially the same as having Ava in another room, since Leah had to reach over and grab her out to feed her at night (breast is best!). Eventually, though, the necessary refining that happens in all repetitive tasks took place, and Ava just ended up in our bed for the night after that first feeding.

Sleep is a very personal thing, and everyone will handle it differently, according to their own needs. Still, I can’t resist a good ol’ parenting fight whenever I see one break out on the WWW.

I would have to recommend this:

Hunter was sleeping through the night by six weeks, and, when she was fussy, we just had to bring out the miracle blanket and she calmed down.

With respect to you not having a baby… (and, do with this what you will…) I swear we did not conceive either time until I, 1) gained about fifteen pounds and 2) stopped drinking any form of caffine.

That looks like the most complicated swaddling blanket I’ve ever seen! I accomplished the same thing — only tighter — with a plain ol’ waffle weave baby blanket from Target. I have a picture around here somewhere…ah yes, here we go:

Yes, but not everyone has your mad swaddling skills.

And, your child was not a giant… this thing kept Hunter wrapped up until she was sixteen weeks old.
