Easy go, easy come

Gosh, this post could go anywhere with a subject line like that, eh? But I’ll keep it clean.

You may recall we had a tree removed at the house recently. We’ve known — I think — that we wanted to plant another tree near the site where the former one lived, but we didn’t know when we’d do it, what it’d be, or where we’d get it. Our master gardener friend Laura answered two of those questions for us in one fell swoop:

parfait

Meet Malus hupehensis ‘Strawberry Parfait.’ Laura raised it from a sapling in a pot in her yard after discovering it shooting off her mature tree. She didn’t have a spot for it, I did, and the rest is history. I’m not going to get it into the ground before we leave for Decorah this weekend, but I’ll be ready to dig as soon as we get home.
