In the last 24 hours, I’ve found out that four women I know are pregnant. Spring has sprung, I guess. This morning, Ava came in while I was getting ready and patted my tummy. She said, “Do you have a baby in there, Mom?” I said, “No,” and she said, “Well, it looks like you do.” (Isn’t that great?! What a self-esteem booster!) Then she said, “I wish we could have a baby, Mom. I would be the best big sister if you had a baby. I’d feed her from my nipples, and then I’d go get my driver’s license and drive her everywhere she needs to go. And I’d give her my booster seat and take care of her.” I tried to hide the tears in my eyes when I hugged her. It’s just one of those days.

    I AM happy for them. I’m happy for them and sad for me at the same time, if that makes any sense. I wouldn’t want this to diminish any bit of their joy; they deserve every minute of it. I guess it’s just hard to explain. Tomorrow’s a new day.

    The kids are playing outside and I am thinking about you. I don’t understand, but my heart aches for you. I know you are very happy for your friends, but it doesn’t mean that you’re heart doesn’t break a little when you hear their news. I don’t have words to comfort you but do know that you have the support of friends who care for you deeply. And you are a wonderful role model for all of us as you exhibit compassion, feeling, and strength. My hugs to you today and even tomorrow–a new day. Finally, there is no need to explain:)

I know you are very happy for your friends, but it doesn’t mean that you’re heart doesn’t break a little when you hear their news. I don’t have words to comfort you but do know that you have the support of friends who care for you deeply.     We know you are happy for them – a person can be happy for someone, but at the same time feel envious. Nothing wrong with that.

    I also believe you will have that baby in your arms someday. You will.

    And when Ava and her little brother are screaming at each other in the backseat and making you nuts, you can remind Ava that she promised to take care of him/her. (you might want to leave out the nipple part… : } )

    I know it’s a tender subject, so of course I don’t blame you a bit for feeling verklempt about Ava’s remarks…

    But the nipple thing is pretty hilarious, you have to admit.
