In passing

December 19th, 2007 · by map · View Comments

I wanted to take a moment to formally welcome my brother-in-law Kevin to the wonderful world of Macdom. See, his new manager at work is a Mac guy, which means, among other things, that Kevin gets a new work laptop to replace his Dell. Turns out that new work laptop is a black MacBook loaded to the hilt brim. Very nice. He took possession only yesterday, but I suspect he’s already running Ubuntu on it. You can take the boy off the cli, but you can’t…erm…something about the cli. Anyway, welcome aboard, Kevin! And remember, contrary to what you might read in the Ars forums, Mac users come in all shapes and sizes.

I've had more hard locks with Leopard than I ever recall having with Tiger. It makes me wonder about the process Apple has for logging and acting on all those crash reports that get sent back to Cupertino.

Nice, Nathan. I am enjoying the ride so far. Mark, I have not installed Ubuntu yet! It's only a matter of time. I'm indecisive if I should install VMWare or Parallels. It has proven itself as a capable laptop so far. I've had two hard locks, but last night I was able to vpn to work and reboot a wireless controller card without hicups, which was nice.

    What language are you speaking????

    Ah, here we go:
    - A splint for your middle finger, because between having to unlearn the right button or straightening it out to show to the screen, you'll need it.
    - A chastity belt; Mac heads like to keep themselves pure from the outside world.
    - A wooden prop for your chin. You're going to need it, especially when installing hardware and the magic really happens. Plug and play will shock the hell out of you.
    - An ice pack for your hand. This is because if you actually try to find out how things work on a Mac, you'll be politely slapped on the hand and told that you don't want to know, you can't know, and you really should run off and enjoy yourself.
    - A doobie, standard issue. Easily upgradeable to a fatty if you make a video of yourself in a cardigan with iTunes and post it to YouTube within 24 hours. Oh, and you have to mention how the Mac saved your homework.

    Welcome to the club. :)
